What do you think of diving deco for 8 minutes? I mean recreational diving? What do you think of divers do Deco diving?

What do you think would probably be more interesting :)

If it is done safe and within limits, what's the problem. I ususally don't make a practice of it but sometimes it happens. That's where a good computer can come in real handy.:D

well, recreational diving is by definition a dive where no deco stops are
incurred (other than the safety stops, which is another story).

so if you incurr 8 minutes deco, you're no longer diving recreationally

i think deco diving is a lot of fun, but you need proper training first.

I preach by the book on this one- never dive beyond your training and experience.

There are some divers that have the skills and discipline to do deco diving, and there are others that would benefit from formal instruction. The hard part is figuring out which diver is which. It's like asking- what do you think of driving 140 mph on the highway? Some drivers get away with it, and some drivers crash their car. Neither of them put their foot on the gas and think "I'm gonna wrap this car around that tree!" Like diving, what you don't know can still hurt you.

I think it's a good idea to have some idea of deco theory to understand why the guidelines are what they are, but respecting limits is more important.

Are you talking about exceeding your NDLs and incurring an 8 minute deco obligation, as per PADI rules? I think doing 8 minutes of deco is better than surfacing in that situation, but raises serious questions about the diver who incurred the obligation in the first place.

Decompression diving, which I do not do, is a whole different ball game, because you cannot surface when you need to. You MUST be sure you have enough gas to do the deco you need to do to be safe. You MUST have the buoyancy control to be able to hold shallow stops, as time spent shallow is the essence of a lot of deco. You MUST understand the theory behind the decompression model you are using, in order to be sure that you are doing the right amount of deco, at the right depths, to surface safely.

Somebody who is properly trained and educated, and has the skills, has every right to do decompression diving, and will hopefully do it safely. Those of us who do NOT have the training, education and skills, had better plan and execute our dives better than that. JMHO.

Its no biggie, provided you have requisite training/equipment and planned the dive as such and are comfortable with the dive plan.

If you lack the training or equipment, then skip it. If you want to do the dive, get the training/equipment to do it right. There is a reason why tek divers carry so much more gear. (And its not to subsidize thier chiropractor either)

As for divers who engage in decompression diving, well, I see nothing wrong with it so long as they have the proper training. It is more risk to manage but it can be managed so why not.
