I'm going back to Cozumel this year and this time I want to take something to let boats know that I'm surfacing, or at least let them know that I've surfaced since with all the boat traffic I can see how easily somebody can get hit by a boat. What do you guys use/recommend and where did you get it.

Thanks.

Eyes and ears coming up and a sausage on the surface. :dazzler1:

The Pocket Mark IV Torpedo (TM) works nicely. Available from your friendly neighborhood arms dealer.

A more common signaling device is a surface marker buoy ("SMB"). If you're concerned about them seeing you come up, you can attach the SMB to a spool or reel and shoot to the surface from a certain depth. A 6' SMB should do the trick.

"that grey stuff between your ears!"

well, by the time the boater sees the grey stuff between your ears drifting on the water, isn't it a bit too late?

LOL-- well hopefully if you use that grey stuff that wont happen!

Yeah, surfacing in the Cozumel channel makes me nervous. Lots of boat traffic, and with U.S.Coast Guard controls no where near, I never know about the qualifications of the operators. :11:

I always carry my own safety sausage; I'll readily deploy it to break surface before my arm will; I make sure I've got enough weight and air to stay down longer if I hear any boats near; and - I think I'll start using a 20 foot line to send the sausage up while I do my stafety stop.

Also good to glue a couple of computer disk, back to back, and carry in your BC pocket. Hold it in your right hand as you come up...

Excellent thread!

don ;)

Cant see what the problem is.

Delayed Surface Marker Buoy just inflated 5 mins or so prior to surfacing.

None of this inflate on the surface rubbish. DSMB is simple and effective.
