So, what do you do with all the extra strap lengths from shoulder straps, waist belts, crotch straps, or any other strap that hangs off your gear?

I have a lot of extra lengths of straps that I can't just cut off. I have some that hang over 12" off my body (No, I'm not bragging... :eyebrow: ).

Do you tape them up? Rubber bands? or just let 'em hang out?

I like things neat and out of the way on my gear. Are you the same way or....?

So?

Danglies??? I only have 2 straps that have a little extra length (you know ~ growing room :D). The one on my weight belt gets taken care of by the harness. Being a one piece harness, there are no shoulder straps to dangle. The waist strap end gets tucked first through the crotch strap loop, then into the knife pouch loop.

I can't just cut off
...take an old table knife and heat it over the stove until red hot... use that to cut the straps off and seal the ends.

If you can't cut them because of the way your gear is made consider getting different gear.... at least consider it.

Is that a picture of a torpedo with a headlight, or is that you Uncle Pug? :cut:

Sure I COULD cut them off, but I'm sure as soon as i do I'll realize that I cut it too short.

Remember measure once, cut twice....oops...

My basic gear doesn't have danglies, but I have 2 suggestions for you. The extras I have bought to hang on (such as a large lobster/junk net) I have attached a snap. I also wear a strap at my ankle that I attach it too. This keeps it from dragging the reef. The second one I learned when I was with the Airborne in the Army. We had a lot of straps that were dangerous for exiting aircraft, so we taped or rubber banded. Since tape won't work that well in the water, look at rubber bands. Hope this helps.

That's exactly what we did when I was in, I was nearly the exact opposite of you tho...Armor. Couldn't be much more attached to the ground.

I'm considering the rubber band or bike inner tube route. We'll see.

I didn't know DAT's could dive?? I've met a lot of retirees, former soldiers and current soldiers here on the board. Seems like we need the continued thrill. Oh, yeah I guess you'll be making comments about the infantry and the great sound they make going crunch under the treads.

LOL, that's funny.

DATs can't dive?? 64 tons sink FAST!

And it's C-DATs now, because we're computerized.

Huh, a funny Crunchy, that's a new one...

Oh, well. We're all in it together. Stay safe brother.
