What actions do you take to positively help the environment while diving?
.

Last month my girlfriend and I took the PADI Coral Reef Conservation course on Cozumel with Dr. German Mendez.

Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Program

Coral Reef Conservation | PADI

The course took two days, included four dives, and cost $160. We learned about the different corals, coral diseases, and "planted" coral fragments that had been broken off the reefs. Much of what we were doing was cleaning the coral fragments, removing the "bad" algae, and improving the immediate environment so the coral could have a better chance of thriving.

It can take an entire dive just to clean one rock and there are lots of rocks in the Paradise Reef area near the new cruise ship dock (across from Casa del Mar) so he needs lots of trained volunteers. It appears to be making a significant difference.

We met and dived with some other divers who had also taken the course,

We also pick up trash too.
