What's that peice of equipment that consists of a line looped around the tank valve, slung over the shoulder, and on the end has a massive O-ring for clipping stuff off? (I think it's called an O-ring, although O-ring is a little redundant considering a ring is in essence an O)

No, he's talking about a thing that was common in the earlier days of diving in the northeast. Basically, it was a big rope tied to the maifold that you could clip all your junk off to. I forget what it's called, though. Makes you look like a miniature christmas tree.

I don't know what you call it, but it sounds like a monumentally bad idea. (if I really needed a big ring to clip a bunch of stuff to, I'd attach it to a harness "D" ring with a short - 2 or 3 inch - piece of line and a double-ender. As described it sounds too much like a potential noose.)
Rick :)

Like a D-ring? ;0)

I can't believe you guys don't know what this is!

it commonly has two names

1) a P.I.T.A.

2) a death trap!

Although,, it would probably look pretty good with a cluster of those little hot pink lights all hooked to it.:D

You forgot number 3.

Holiday Horror. You just tie of green and red light sticks to it!

I dunno, I think Rick's right, the thingy as discribed should be called a noose.

a homemade device called a 'tank rose' to carry multiple deco bottles that will be placed on a fixed ascent line.

It's a loop of large bungie with plastic tubing as a sleeve which is then affixed to a bolt snap. I've carried up to 6 cylinders with this little gadget...much easier than trying to clip that many bottles to a harness d-ring.
