I’ve been lurking for months and month and I find that once a week or so the old question of what BC should I get comes up. Most of the “locals” all immediately chime in and say BP&W, you get very few or no answers for jacket or back inflate. So my question is: what do the pros use? Not commercial divers, but the real pros, the army and navy. What about the famous Navy Seals or whatever the elite group in the states are?

And now, if no one objects, I’d like to return to my lurking… some one PLEASE send some warm weather to Canada…

the pros like special ops do not use recreational scuba gear. Why would they? They want to get in fast and stealth, do their job and exit stealth. I believe the seals use DUI TLS drysuits. I have had a chance to try out the CIA's CODE (2 hr O2 ccr) spy rig made by AquaLung that is so small it just hangs around your neck. So unless your a pro assasin or something, I dont see how "what the pros use" relate to what we use...

After careful consideration I've decided (I'm a pro) that the BP&W isn't for me.

I've seen some fairly shocking practices in the armed services, certainly not representative of recreational (diving and other) practices....

The BP/W has it's place, both in recreational and technical diving - but it's not the answer to everything.

Saying that, I do like rear inflation BCDs and would dive one by choice for the majority of my diving.

There are literally thousands of Zeagle Ranger BCs in the Navy fleet.

I'm sure that there are plenty of other brands of BCs as well, but I have no idea what numbers.

However, what is most important, in my opinion, is what works for you....not what everybody else is diving!!!

What about the pros who dive everyday? the dive guides and what not who do 600-800 dives a year?

Interested in those as well or just military?

I’m confused, what they use must resemble what we use no? I mean, they need to use weights, regulators, fins, some type of bag on their backs to hold air? Maybe the question should be what do we use that closely resembles what they use? Maybe I’m just bored and can’t stand American Idol.

And I’d tell you if I was a super stealth covert assassin, but then I’d have to kill ya.

I have a tusa imprex pro back inflate that I bought used, it's the only thing I've ever used, I like it and can't see changing, unless of corse someone wants to give me stuff...

Sure, but I'd be willing to bet the majority of the answers would be BP&W....

Well I would think that the Military divers use a closed loop system like a re breather as it produces the least amount of bubbles. I can tell you the guys who did maintenance on the ship in port used what ever they could get their hands on that functioned for them. As for the navy salvage divers they are all hard hat divers so their gear looks nothing like ours period. I would see what fits you the best for your conditions. I would be interested to see what dive guides and dive instructors use. I do not think that you would see many instructors useing BP/W ads it might confuse their students. Just my thought on it
