When testing mask/fins/snorkel in the pool during OW class the dive shops that I've been associated with will let you exchange them for different equipment if they don't feel or fit you right.

So, what do they do with that leaky mask that was way too big for your face? Fins that didn't fit? Snorkel that just wasn't quite right?

Do they resell them as new after some sort of cleaning process or what?

Just wun'dering....

Thanks bunches!

Sometimes they go into the "rental bucket" for students to use during confined and open water dives if they are not interested in purchasing....

Many stores will sell you this gear at half price if you ask if they have any used gear.

I allways clean and rinse my "rental" gear. I watched one store owner clean a mask so nice he sold it as new after 6 uses so he would not loose money.

These Items would probably end up in our rental department.
Unless of course there was something wrong with the product.
Then we would return it to the manufacture to be replaced.
Hope this answers your question.

I wouldn't mind buying something that had been used once or twice as long as it was in good shape. This is a small price to pay (or contribution, depending on how you look at it) to being able to try gear out before buying. My LDS is great about making sure that folks get the right gear.

here, they sell it once a year or designate it to rental gear.

Yep - they sell off all the rental gear and other used gear in MN in the fall. You can get some great deals on BCs, regs, lights, etc. that have been used less than 20 times and have been fully checked out by the dive shop.

Thanks everyone!

I think I'll give some of my LDSs a call and see if they have annual sales or anything similar to that...never know, I might find some great deals! :)
