Just curious -- last couple weeks, I've been reading around 43-45 consistently at Cape Ann sites at depth. This pretty much matched the temps I had logged last year around this time.

Today, however, in Marblehead, I was getting temps of 52-54 (and that was at 5am in 30-35 fsw).

What else have people been recording on Cape Ann and the South Shore?

Hi, I got certafied last fall and did a bit of diving over the winter, but in warm water. My schedule is finally lightening up for the weekends and I'm hoping to get out next weekend for a few dives. What do you consider the minimum temp to be some what confortable in a 7mm suit with gloves and a hood? I've done some in 50F water, but never tried anything lower. Thanks.

We dove Cape Ann, specifically Folly Cove, over Memorial Day weekend. The computers showed 44 degrees at a depth of about 40 feet. It was chilly, but we were not uncomfortable for two dives.

I've been reading in the mid 40s for the past few months, with one dive off Pebble Beach in Rockport that had a shallow bottom temp reading 51.

47 degrees at 25' at Sandwich Town Beach this past weekend.

45F, 47F Both Rockport, both no more than 40'.

57? Were you in the water at the time? ;)

JHeil -- tolerances are totally up to the individual. Without knowing your body type, expectations, etc. it's hard to say what temperature you'd be comfortable doing. With water temps now in the 50s in shallow depths (~25' or less), you could easily go and see what you're comfortable in and then if deeper water is too chilly, you have a lot of options.

Some easy and cheap ones are getting a chicken vest with integrated hood, wearing a shortie under or over your suit, wearing neoprene socks, better/thicker gloves, warming up between dives with warm water (or during the dive). If you like diving locally and are still cold, consider a quality semi-dry suit or dry suit.

71F surface at Kennebunk Pond,Lyman Maine. I went for a 2 hour skin-dive and was roasting in my 5mm, & chicken vest.

That's 8 degrees warmer than the same date a year ago and up 6 degrees in 6 days. And this was a drizzly overcast afternoon!

Last weekend on shore (scuba) dives I was seeing minimums of 50F off Bailey Island (45') and 51F off Biddeford Maine (22').

Pete
