Hi,

I have now got most of my basic equipment except for a BCD. To make this even more complex I use a harness as I need to take a lot of lead :(

I am interested to know what combinations of BCD & harness people are using. Have looked at wings as there will keep the chest * stomach area clear (to allow quick detachment of weights if required.) still confused any help will be greatfully recieved.

If you carry a lot of lead, there's really no way to go other than a bp with a wing.

Example:

Let's say you normally wear 30 lbs of lead with a normal BC. You move to a bp/wing.

Get a heavy plate - 10.4 pounds.
Weighted STA - 6 pounds.
Remove inherent buoyancy in regular BC - 2 pounds.

That's almost *nineteen pounds* you can take off of your waist and spread evenly across your back.

Not bad, eh? BTW, getting the proper amount of weighting can be time consuming. On my first OW dives I wore 32 pounds.... after slowly dropping weight over time, I got down to 22.

I left out some specifics.

Go to http://www.oxycheq.com/Bouyancy.html

The Oxycheq singles wing is apparently the new wing of choice.. and the backplates and STA's there are very high quality.

What you need is:

A wing
A backplate
A single tank adapter
9 feet or so of 2" nylon webbing
5 D-rings
5 D-ring keepers.

Halcyon sells this entire package as their MC system.. I'm sure if you give the Oxycheq guys a call they'll give you a price for the complete BC system.

I use a Zeagle with 28 lbs in the pockets (could go to 34 lb), 8 lbs in the pockets on the back band and ankle weights. How much weight is allot??

Hi,

In salt water with a wet suit I need, about 18 Kgs. Hence the harness as it takes the weight off my lower back.
