What are the options for being able to use the same regulator with both the commonly available yoke fitting for travel and a DIN fitting for HP steel tanks locally? I have an Apex TX-100 Regulator.

Questions:

1. Can I buy an adapter for the TX-100 first stage that will modify it to a DIN fitting? If so will it still operate safely at 3500 psi?

2. Can I modify the TX-100 first stage to DIN and then get a DIN/Yoke adaptor? And if so is this significantly less expensive than buying a separate first stage?

3. Are there other options I have not thought about?

Thanks,
Mike

Both my 1st stages have been converted to DIN. I use HP steel tanks unless traveling. When/if I need it, I have a DIN to yoke adapter that works very well with the 3500 PSI.

I don't remember the exact price for the conversion and adapter but it wasn't alot.

I recently purchased a yoke to DIN adapter for my Zeagle Flathead VI so I can use it with the HP80 I ordered as well as rental tanks and it was under $40 from my LDS.

A din to yoke adapter is a yoke connector that fits on your 1st stage din fitting. It moves your 1st stage closer up to 1 inch closer to the back of your head where some folks, including me, have a problem with it whacking you in the back of the head when you look up. I found a yoke connector on ebay and converted my reg from din to yoke. This conversion requires removal of the din fitting from the 1st stage and replacing it with a yoke fitting. The conversion is relatively simple with the right tools and a little mechanical ability. I'm not familiar with the yoke to din adapter, but the one shown in the Leisurepro catalog is limited to 3000psi.

I asked a similar question on this board, not too long ago, and the consensus seemed to be to do what awap did. I'll be changing my Zeagle to DIN when I buy a tank, and will change it back for travel.

I have a feeling that I perhaps dropped the ball on my recent purchase on an Apeks ATX 200, console me people or better yet tell me no big deal...

I bought a yoke reg (like every other reg in the store and that I've ever used). Upon further reflection, would I have been better off buying a DIN and then a yoke adapter? Or does it make a difference if I now change the yoke to din and then buy a din adaptor?

Using aluminum rental tanks for now but would like to purchase steels as my personal gear.... for the weighting thing.

Noshow, you're in the same situation I'm in. IMO, there's no need to make the switch to DIN until you buy your tanks. At that time, you can convert your reg to DIN.
I asked similar question a few weeks ago. If I knew how to insert a link to the thread, I would, but if you're interested in the responses I got, search for "Traveling with DIN".

Yoke fittings are limited to 232BAR (3410 PSI) which is OK for 3000psi tanks (even overfilled) but not HP tanks. While they DO sell Yoke adaptors for HP tanks, they aren't a good idea. Safest is to get a DIN reg (or convert one to DIN) and use a yoke adaptor.
