About a year ago I bought a custom wetsuit from JMJ in Torrance. At the same time I had them do repair work on my five-year-old Aquaflite suit. They did a great job on both (though the new JMJ wetsuit -- kind of a semi-dry -- is so good that I haven't had any reason to dive the old one).

If you dont mind me asking ,how much for the custom suit and how long to get it made?? I am leaning towards a new suit instead of a repair,my old suit has only 50 dives on it but if it costs more than a hundred bucks I would rather get a new one.it was a little cold at catalina with an open zipper in 54deg water.Frank O:

I can't remember exactly how long the suit took to make -- I ordered it during the Christmas season, so that may have affected it a little. I'd suggest calling them and seeing what turnaround time they quote.
I have their Predator 7mm suit -- one-piece with integrated hood, with a front shoulder zipper so it's self-donning. I see on the website they call it their "7mm Freediving Fullsuit with Titanium Neoskin interior":

Though they call it a freediving suit, I have 50 or 60 scuba dives on it so it's obviously fine for that. I ordered it without a cocking pad on the chest -- I freedive too, but am generally carrying a camera, not a speargun. They don't bill it as a semi-dry, but it's pretty close to that idea. I did a dive in 53 F water a couple of weeks ago, and after an hour my drysuited buddy was colder than I was!

Here's someone in O.C. who makes custom wetsuits, tailors off the shelf wetsuits, and does repairs. I haven't used her personally, but friends have and I'm told she does great work and is very reasonably priced.
