wetsuit rec. and ? about Morehead City

I am heading down to NC to dive with Discovery this weekend. I have heard that the water temps are mid to upper 70's - so is a 3 mil OK?

What is the most common wetsuit thickness this time of year?


I usually dont get cold very easily - but I want to be safe.


Also - is spearfishing "common". I was going to bring my new Mako speargun but I know there can be a lot of sharks down in NC - is the spear a bad idea? or will the sharks pretty much leave you alone?

Bring your gun...you don't have to use it if the sharks are there or if it doesn't fit into the dive. The mates and/or Captain will let you know if it is OK. Just leave it on the boat if spearing is not in the program.

I was down there a couple of weeks ago and was comfortable in my 3/2. People do spearfish down there but not usually on the wrecks with sharks.
