You do want to pack as close to departure as possible. One way to minimize creasing is to roll the suit into itself. Pull the legs 1/2 way into the legs, do the same with the arms so the thing ends up looking like a shorty. Then one fold near the bottom of the torso gets it into a suitcase. You can't control luggage handling but put it at the top of the case and make sure it's padded with a towel or something. You don't want a sharp item pressing into it.

A week can make a mess of it. With a little care a travel day will have no effect.
