My wife and I have been avid snorkelers for several years, and are taking our open water class next month. We are both paramedics with about 20 years of EMS experiance between us. I am also a flight medic and intend to go on to rescue diver, even though I don't generally mix work and recreation. We live in Ft.Lauderdale, have been married for nearly 8 years, and have a 6 year old son who has recently discovered snorkelling. It's been a great family activity that we intend to continue even after becoming certified. It'll be several years before our son can follow us underwater, and we don't want to leave him out. We are quite excited about this new endeavor, and any advice would be very welcome indeed.

Welcome to you and your family!

Hope you enjoy SCUBA Board, I'm sure you will have an opportunity to learn and share. I have found people to be very helpful. If I can help you feel free to contact me.

All the best,

Paul

Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and :D the friendliest!
If you'll click ScubaBoard.com above, you'll be taken to our long list of forums, a wealth of information and resources.

I snorkeled some over years of tourist trips to the Carib before I finally got hooked on Scuba!! Makes some of the initial skills easy to master, don't you think - mask clearing, finning, breathing.

Rescue Diver may be a good course to pursue, but have you talked to DAN about their Oxygen Provider course? You might look into that...?

PM me if I can help you learn your way around; that is - click my username to the upper left, then follow the prompts to send me a "Personal Message." :thumb:

Hello,

Like you I'm new to this site and new to diving. Not sure exactly where you are located but wanted to chat. I'm a career lieutenant with a truck company in New Jersey and also a medic. I've recently obtained FP-C certification and am persuing entering the air-medical arena. Like to talk sometime! Enjoy the water and be safe.

Joe
