Good day of diving today at the old train bridge in Welland.

Water temp is 41 degrees. First time in the canal. Quite the selection of bicycles, beer, cans and fish. Vis around 25 feet.

Saw a nice pike. Couple of interesting but still unidentified eel like creatures. Sorry no underwater pics . Didn't bother with the camera.

Anyone know what eels live in rivers around southern Ontario?

could it be a lampray? They kinda look like an eel but stick themselves to larger fish.

Nothing else remains but to return to the canal and snap a photo of one of these things.

I think it may have been a small cod but the flexibility of its body didn't make it look very "fishlike"

It was all s curved on the bottom like an eel.

Man, you two must be hard up for diving if you're doing the Welland Canal (old).

Heheh, I could have thrown a stone out my back door (almost) and have hit you.

I've been in the canal a total of 3 or 4 times in my life, and I see it everyday.

Yup, 23ft, mud, dirt, sludge, bikes, shopping carts, and news stands, and unknown chemicals from the nearby industrial plants.

A great dive :-)

Oh well, I'll be in it for some ice diving this year if I get bored enough.

DeepScuba once bubbled...

A few stones might have made the dive more interesting!

And yes we really were bored, but I just bought a canister light and wanted to give it whirl!

Safe Diving:)

I'd do it. This time of year 41°F is downright balmy!!

Lots of 'junk' to look at I suppose - sounds like our quarry here in Kingston (although the Camaro and fishing boat were intentionally put there...)
