The first dives back in the keys were a bit sad to be honest. The lack of coral / color is a stark contrast.

I only got one dive in Cozumel from a cruise ship which wasn't much better, but I know Cozumel can have some great color!

I plan to do Bonaire later this year so I can't compare yet, but I did get a shore dive in on my last cruise stop in Curacao. It was one of my favorite dives since going to Indonesia. Still not close to the same, but still great.

Will it skew your future dives? Yes. It is still worth it? Also yes. :)

My neighbor loves Thailand and I know many love the Philippines as well. I've seen some amazing video from both. I think the key is nothing out of this world is near the US unfortunately.
Bonaire is my favorite at this point. The coral is taking a terrible beating but the marine life is still there - baitballs, turtles, rays, lots of fish, and even dolphins aren't that unusual. But i have to look past the rubble.... As a point of comparison, I can take my family of 4 to Bonaire and stay in a 3 bd waterfront unit for 10 days with unlimited air and it's around 4k including dives. (We use AA miles but airfare has been unusually low, like mid $500 range which is excellent). But i will get to SE Asia one of these days.
