Got my new mask in August when I signed up for OW certification. Took it home and scrubbed it out 3 times with white Colgate (plain) toothpaste. Then read on here to run it through the diswasher a couple of times, so I ran it through on two complete cycles. Last week and this week in my pool sessions the mask fogged up like crazy.

So today I flamed it. It was easy, it burned something off since the glass turned opaque and then very, very clear. I then washed it out with soap, rinsed it really well, and I will test it next week on my first OW dives! So for those of us newbies who are afraid to do this, don't be afraid, because if anyone has the luck to screw it up, that would be me.

I used one of those long, bic grill lighter thingys. :)

Wife & I just got new masks last Satuday.
I took them home & flamed them both, we went diving on Sunday & both masked work great.
No fogging whatsoever!!!

Chip good for you :)
Now use some baby shampoo right before the dive as the anti-fog conditioner or spit..

Never flamed mine as the toothpaste worked. After doing that I find that all I need is a bit of spit and a light rinse.

A dive master on the Nautilus Belle Amie flamed my new mask. I have never had any issues with digging.

Doesn't even have to be applied right before entering. I've probably gone as much as an hour between applying baby shampoo and entering the water.

I have mixed up the solution, but do you spray it on and rinse it off before use? Or just spray and leave on?

How do you flame your mask without melting the skirt? Inquiring minds want to know as I brought mask #4 home last night in my perpetual search for one that doesn't leak (at least not that much). Thank goodness DRIS has a good return policy.
