I apologize if this is the wrong section, I wanted to put it in Tech Diving but none of the subsections matched the question.

Anyone in here know anything about underwater welding? I would like to make a career in diving eventually, and I'm a fair welder on the surface if it helps. I am looking into all possibilities for diving as a career and this one has caught my eye. Any information on UW welding will be greatly appreciated.

The commercial dive training companies will teach you to weld. I tried it at a Commercial Dive Experience at the Ocean Corporation school in Houston. It was fun, I am in no way to be confused with a welder, UW cutting was a total blast. I felt like Luke Skywalker with a light saber!
The people at the school told us it was much easier to teach welders to dive then divers to weld. One of my open water students enrolled in that school after he finished his OW course. He is now living on a commercial dive boat repairing hurricane damage in the Gulf of Mexico. And last i heard he was having a good time and making some money.
PM if you want more info.
Just a note...I am not or do I plan to be a commercial diver.

My husband is a nuke welder. He has all positions certs and welds on stainless steel for reactors. Anyway, he went to the cheapest school in La and the weld class was minimal, but once he got his job the company paid for all the training since it is so specific. Otherwise the school I went to (Diver's Institute of Technology in Seattle) though ridiculously expensice had an awesome weld/cut program. An entire month of it!
The school that advertise the UW weld certs alone are a rip off and waste of time. seriously. Email my husband if you want: diveglenn@hotmail.com
