Cool thanks for more input guys. I figured it was better to be slightly heavy at this point.

"No. This is a question best asked breathing air at 1ATA in street clothes"

That's a good one. I'll have to remember that one.

Thanks again guys.

"The water temperature I could have lived without."

In a 3mm if you stay about about 30' you should be OK. Lanier can get pretty cold below 30'.

I think diving frequently in low visibility makes for a better diver. It makes good visibility dives so much more pleasant.

One thing to watch out for, if you go to the pool to work on your weighting and trim, make sure they give you an 80. They really don't like to give them out for pool work, they prefer the the diver use a 63, but tell them you're working on weighting and trim and they'll comply.
It was weird the first day I felt the temperature. Maybe it was nerves(although I wasnt nervous at all... I am very comfortbale on and under the water)?? But the second day I hardly felt the 73 degrees.

Good point about the AL63 and AL80's!! I need to remember that. ***writes note to self***

SeaVentures is a good place. I was in there the other day talking to a few of the guys in there and am thinking about taking my advanced open water/nitrox/deco training through them.

I agree with The Kracken. Sounds like your weighting is pretty good at this stage. This early into your diving career I think it would be acceptable to add the 2 lbs. With some more dives and an increasing level of comfort and relaxation you will probably remove that 2 lbs and maybe 2 more.

i agree... for now, concentrate on getting your skills up to speed,
primarily bouyancy and trim.

when your bouyancy and trim are good enough so that you
can benefit from less weight (that won't take too long), then
concentrate on shedding weight so that you are neutral on
the surface with an empty BC and about 250 psi at the end of
the dive.

add .25 of your TOTAL weight (yourself, gear, weights) for
salt water.

Thats pretty much what I've been trying to do. Bouyancy and trim is hard part, although I think I am doing ok at this point. All of the other skills I have no problem with at all.

Greetings, dyarab!!
I live between Roswell and Alpharetta and dive the lake a lot.
Hrmmm -- Local people ---

You will have to let us know when you are diving Lanier again. We should meet you out there sometime!

Will do !!!
This spring I want to kick off my project of mapping out the submerged structures at the lake for a diving site compendium.

I've been getting some good response on this project. Look in the "deep south divers" or whatever forum it is for "Lake Lanie Diving Compendium".

It'll add another dimension to your diving and give you plenty of experience to work on your weighting issues (I had to get this back on thread somehow) ; ).

I will have to look up the thread! Sounds interesting! Are you a member of any of the local clubs?

And yes I would say these dives would give the original poster a lot of good chances to work on the weighting issues! (gotta keep on topic!)

A hint: "Deep Dixie Divers / Lake Lanier: Diving Compendium
Nope, don't belong to any clubs.
Yep, good place to work on trim and weighting, especially when going deeper and needing more exposure protection.

Hey don't keep the thread on target on my behalf... but it would be a good place to work on weight and trim. ;)
