I currently dive a BP/W and drysuit here in cold Lake Atlantic off NJ, with steel 119cf tanks and a 6lb STA I need ZERO additional weight.

Going to Cayman islands for a week, and will be diving with 80cf aluminum tanks so am thinking I'll be needing some lead, but really don't want a weight belt. Would prefer to add to weight pockets to my rig.

I like the Halcyon ACB system, but they are a bit pricey - any similar alternatives?

If you are going to be using less exposure suit you weight requirements are likely going to be less, even with a buoyant tank.

A 4-6-8 lbs weight belt is no big deal, and can be rented anywhere.

XS weight pockets behind D-ring(s) @ LP for $10. Are you taking an Al plate?

I recently needed 12lbs diving my exact rig except for an AL80 tank.

I'm guessing that going from a drysuit and light undies to a wetsuit will be about a wash?

12 lbs plus 6lb STA, plus 5lb(?) BP?

Hard to say, but even if it is a wash you still only need a 6 lbs weight belt. A 3 on each side isn't uncomfortable like 10 on each side.

If you are uncertain as to your exact weight requirements I recommend finding out before investing in pockets you may not really need.

Have fun on your trip.

I'm not a big fan of weight belts either, but a couple of 2 or 3 lb weights on a belt isn't very noticable. I was in Cozumel last week and dove with 4 lb over and above the 6 lb of my bp/w. It wasn't a problem at all. If you have a 6 lb STA, you still might not need any additional weight.

last time i was in the caribbean i went with 4 XS Scuba weight pouches, and I had to leave them all behind because the staff at the dive shop I was with loved them so much. I have to go buy some more now.

They comfortably hold a 5lb brick (ea) max and the pocket is very small compared to others that I have seen (e.g., DR). Just slip it on your webbing and forget it.
