I just recently purchased a bp/w for my wife for xmas. I got the dive rite harness and 16lb pockets only the pockets are too hard for to pull. Is there a better option for her? She is 5.0 115 lbs. I was thinking to modify the latch but that doesn't seen too safe. Please help?

A weight-belt should work. Just make sure it's outside the BP harness not under it, or it won't be ditchable, and OW training requires that the weight be ditchable.

flots.

Thank But I am looking for integrated weights. Any pockets that are addible?

The XS quick release weight pockets are fine. Buy her four of them. Each one can carry up to five pounds and take up no more room than the DR 16 system. I have both and know the limitations of each.

Frankly, if the DR pockets are loaded and she gives them a yank, they will come out for her, they do break in. My wife can pull them, yours can too. I would also suggest two of the XS standard WB101 for her cam bands to distribute the weight. Between the six pockets she could carry as much as 30 pounds. I know she will not need that and can probably get by with two of the QR pockets on her waist strap and the two standard pockets on her cam bands. When installing pockets on the cam bands, many people flip the cam bands so they are opposite one another allowing the weight pockets to be located on opposite sides as well and tucked in as close to the wing as possible to keep the CG low.

The Apeks WTX SureLock weight system is very ditchable. In fact, I'd say it *might* be too ditchable. It's quite expensive, especially if you include the optional attachment wings, which are awesome IMO.

Here are the backplate integrated weight systems I've come across:

Halcyon ACB
Apeks WTX SureLock
Dive Rite Quick Release Pockets
ScubaPro X-Tek Weight Pocket System
OMS Compact Quick Dump
Hollis HTS 2 Weight System
Golem Gear Integrated Weight System

Keep in mind that a problem that these weight systems have is that the use a lot of "real estate" on the waist webbing. So it's hard to find a place to put things like a backup light, shears/knife, smb, etc. If your wife can get away w. using only about 12lbs of ditchable ballast then I'd recommend the smaller Halcyon ACB 10 pockets, as they don't take up much space.

A problem with many of those is that they are not quick release.

Real estate on the waist strap is an issue. By the time people of NORMAL dimensions snug the strap up, there is no room for anything. The DR pockets are quite large and especially if set lengthwise will stick out a little. They do with me, my waist is 31 inches. As a bench mark, I can carry a knife and the DR pockets and nothing else. With the (2)XS QR pockets I can slip another item in there, maybe. My can light (can lights are obsolete for open water/night) is not mounted on my waist, it goes in a purpose made pouch on the lower cam band on the opposite side of my XS trim pouch.

Another good thing about distributing weight is that if some of it dumps accidentally you do not go dangerously positive. Keep in mind, I am assuming you are diving wet. If she is dry then I will leave it to folks who dive dry more often than me to advise.

Try latching and releasing the current pockets a few times. It might loosen up a little. I use a gravity assisted ditchable weight pockets. It just requires a downward pull. Mine are DIY - but the design was "borrowed ;)" from a commercial one - SCUBA Diving Equipment for Technical, Sidemount, Rebreather, Wreck and Cave Diving: Dive Rite, Inc - Product Catalog - Gravity Weight Pocket

Thanks! I have the same pockets just older on one of my rigs. I took them off and she can pull those just fine. Looks like I get the new ones!

Deleted. See above. Problem solved as I typed!
