Hi all,

I'm diving a weight belt with 12 pounds of hard coated lead. I have a set of three pound weights on each side. I dive singles, 100 HP with a SS plate. I'm using a 30 lb Eclipse wing.

My Halcyon Explorer comes in next week, I got the 9amp, 21 watt HID. I spoke to Halcyon and they told me it's about -3 pounds negative and that I should lose some weight to compensate.

I have a pair of 4 pound coated weights in the garage, should I place one on each side of my belt or should I return them and divide them up into a set of two pounds on each side?

I guess what I'm asking here is do divers prefer to have more balance and trim with weights divided on their belts or will it make no difference and just two simple 4 pound weights on each side will do the job?

Thanks,

MG

I doubt it will matter.

Bob,

I guess what I'm trying to find out, do divers prefer two large blocks of lead on their hips or breaking down the lead into two smaller pieces of lead.

Four pieces of lead equally balanced on each hip or just one block on each side?

In this case: a pair of two pound weights on each hip or one single 4 lb block on each hip?

Thanks,

MG

I never worry about it. I make my belt "balanced" and don't try to compensate for any can lights, stage bottles...etc etc.

I've never felt unbalanced in the water.

It doesn't matter

I have both -- my weight belt for single tanks is two large, shaped blocks of 10 lbs each, and my belt for doubles is four smaller weights. Both are comfortable, and neither interferes unduly with my canister.

Okay,

Looks like it doesn't matter is the consensus. I just thought and this is me just talking out loud, that for a well rounded feel of balance breaking down the 4 lb block into two smaller 2 lb blocks on each hip would be more flushed into your body and feel equally balanced than the larger block.

I currently have two three pound weights on each side and they feel pretty good. With the CAN light comming in at -3 negative three pounds, I can change to 8 lbs of lead weight instead of 12 lbs. So you can see why I wanted to get an idea what the preference is for weight belts.

Thanks,

FWIW - b1gcountry is not Bob Bailey ... that would be me ... his name is Tom.

And I agree with what others are saying ... it doesn't matter.

Now that I think about single blocks on each hip for my singles, I think I would have more room on the hips. More room for the CAN light?

I have one three pound weight on each side, and my can light (I think -2.5 pounds) on the right side of my harness. I've never noticed any amount of rolling or my weights trying to pull me to the right side. A lot of my diving includes moving very slowly or being completely stopped to look at small things....so it's not momentum keeping me from rolling over. I would guess that it won't matter for you either.
