Look at a copy of todays (8/29) St.Petersburg Times in the Local & State section for a story on Weeki Wachee spring's cave system. To date 7000' of passage and 403' deep and that's just the start. This is the first time anyone has managed to get beyond the opening due to the high flow thanks to this early summer/spring drought.

You need a copy of the paper from the immediate St.Petersburg area to get the whole deal. Pasco and Hillsborough county editions have a condensed version.

Awesome!!!

I heard about this about six weeks ago .... totally cool ... I wounder how much longer they will have low flow? Where do they think they will end up in another cave system?
KP

Actually it was started months ago in the spring season. The flow is back up to levels that do not allow access due to recent rains.

Actually , one of the peeps that has been helping with the Exploring of the Weekie system is a roomie of mine.
Gads , over 400 feet depth??? WOWZA
That is just incredible.
And can you believe that 125 cf/Sec flow?
And I thought Manatee was nassy.

Speaking of low flow , last weekend I was able to (TWICE , mind you) Swim from Catfish all the way up to Friedman's sink at Manatee. That system is so , er , interesting. :D

BIG TIME!
Now you know why some of us Rock Crawlers do what we do.

I think they change the stories every day or so.
