We are not fooling ourselves. The training sites are carefully chosen to be fairly resilient to trim/buoyancy oopsies, fairly shallow and are just not that far from air, and we did it with a huge amount of gas.
 
I'm just talking about skills and abilities.

The nice thing about a class like this is that the pace is slower. There's time to work on refinement of fundamental skills, which yes, are absolutely necessary. It was also nice to have the opportunity to do some practice in warm water, gentle conditions, at easily accessible sites, which is a luxury I don't have at home. I think I came out of the week a better diver.

I'm the first to admit that I'm still very much a beginner and have a lot to learn. There's no reason that learning can not continue in an overhead environment, within limits appropriately set based upon skill, ability, and training.
