The last time I mentioned volunteering to be a webmaster for a site was 4 years ago for the Orange Hunt Civic Association back in VA. Before I had a chance to say a word the board nominated and elected me to be an 'officer' of the board as the webmaster.
A couple weeks later when I had some time to think about it, I cc'd the members of the board in an email and told them that they should be concerned that the website was registered under the name of the ISP that was hosting the site rather then owned by the civic association. I suggested that we should start by transferring ownership of the domain, use MyDNS for free DNS hosting, and then start talking about what we would like to do with the website so that I could have a functional requirements document to base the construction of the website off of.
I got the meanest, nastiest email from the President of the board ( much meaner then any of the crap that goes on around here ) about how dare I attempt to change any of the contracts with a vendor. She then promptly 'fired' me from webmaster.
