Headed to Roatan tomorrow and was wondering how the weather is there currently. Anyone currently in Roatan care to share? Also, how are the currents at the dive sites in Roatan? I'm sure they can vary based on the conditions but in general this time of year are there strong or weak currents?

I guess I will tag on to this thread and ask about current water temp? I am planning on bringing my 5 m.l.

I did a couple of dives with Anthony's Key on the 28th of Dec. The currents were mild, and the water temp was 81 F. The dives were awesome, even better than Cozumel (I was at Coz on the 27th).

The divemaster and I wore 3 mil wetsuits. The other divers wore just swimming suits.

Currents are absolutely dependent upon where you dive.

It is kind of easy to know- are you diving with a North side AI, South side AI or a West End Day dive op?

South side? Have a look in the daylight hours: CoCo View Resort in Roatan, Honduras : Web Cams

I'll be based out on the West End.

I'll throw in a couple of cents-
Dove on both sides for a couple of weeks a month ago. The water was a pretty consistent 82*. Wore a 2 mil shorty and was comfortable, only switched to a long sleeve for the night dives.
I only experienced current on two dives:
The shark dive site, which is a couple of miles off shore had a pretty stong current the day we were there. The only other dive where we did an actual drift dive was right near the point going around the northwest corner of the island. Towards the end of the dive we were scooting right along. All other dives, no real noticeable current.

Last week we had lots of wind, mostly from the east and north-east but since yesterday it was a bit more calm and they came from the north. Great surface conditions on the south shore for the last 3 days. Air temp a bit fresh in the last 48 hours, but warming since this morning and it's supposed to be even better in the next 4-5 days! Water temp 81F on the surface all week long, 79F 30 feet and below. Viz has been anywhere between 25 and 80 feet. Too sad we're going home tomorrow... :(

Trip report will follow!
