My wife and I just completed and were signed off on our PADI O/W course this afternoon. I'm very proud of my wife, who really learned to combat her claustrophobia to deal with a dry suit. I'm also pretty tickled with myself, since before September, I could even float or swim a stroke.
Finished our last two dives today at Alki beach in Seattle. 45 Degree air temp and raining hard, water temp around 48 degrees or so, with 10' visibility. Little bit of current, which made the underwater navigation skill a bit interesting.
This has been quite an interesting process, as we've built our skills over the weeks and learned to become comfortable. We both know we have lots and lots left to learn, but we've hopped over the first hurdle.
To those embarking on the same path - you'll more than likely come up on more than one class where you think about quitting. Just hang in there, it all seems to become a bit easier as you go.
Now - to write that check for dry suit, BCD, reg, and computer.....
