My wife and I just completed and were signed off on our PADI O/W course this afternoon. I'm very proud of my wife, who really learned to combat her claustrophobia to deal with a dry suit. I'm also pretty tickled with myself, since before September, I could even float or swim a stroke.

Finished our last two dives today at Alki beach in Seattle. 45 Degree air temp and raining hard, water temp around 48 degrees or so, with 10' visibility. Little bit of current, which made the underwater navigation skill a bit interesting.

This has been quite an interesting process, as we've built our skills over the weeks and learned to become comfortable. We both know we have lots and lots left to learn, but we've hopped over the first hurdle.

To those embarking on the same path - you'll more than likely come up on more than one class where you think about quitting. Just hang in there, it all seems to become a bit easier as you go.

Now - to write that check for dry suit, BCD, reg, and computer.....

Congratulations and welcome to the adventure. I think it means a lot for other aspiring divers to hear that many of us had to conquer issues and suceeded. It is an adaptation any way you look at it.

Dive safe and often,
Pete

PS, you are certified, now you can update you profile to "certifed, 0-15" dives. Set a goal to get both of you to 16-50 dives!

Congrats!

Now get out there and dive & have fun :D

(I completed my OW 3 weeks ago and finally got the rest of my gear today. So I think I know some of the things you're going though ;) )

Congratulations... Nice accomplishment for both of you.

There is a whole new world of adventure and fun available to you now…

Enjoy…

Great job! Mary and I did our O/W this year also, then went on a cruise too enjoy the tropical diving, and we both love it. Mary still loves to hang around the dive master/instructor, but she will get over that someday.

BTW, notice we have the same last name....:)

Congratulations! I certainly know the challenges of cold water and poor viz . . .

So now you have to haunt the Orca Bait forum and pick up dive buddies!
