On the subject of women divers, I've only ever had to be genuinely (as in life-threatening situation) rescued once whilst diving.

If it weren't for Julie M., my wife would be a widow, and my kids fatherless. Not one of the other - all male - divers (including my insta-buddy) had even noticed that I was deep in the fertiliser.

What happened?

Got my cam buckle very firmly wedged between rocks at the narrowest part of a cave dive.

Reached down into the "sand" to undo my BP/W waist clip, get out of the gear and fix the problem, only to find that the sand below me was just a sprinkling over more rock, and I couldn't get at the clip at all.

The gap was also quite wide (think letterbox style) and flat, so I couldn't get purchase to push back.

I wasn't a happy bunny, I can tell you...
