Diving and leaving a boat/raft/kayak unattended. Not my idea of a good plan.
Go with two friends, one who will stay topside and one dive buddy. Should be fun then. I also like the trailer idea.

That’s not a totally correct statement. A plethora of them get stolen every year without the cord in them. There are several ways to do it.

The easiest is to go to a boat shop and just buy a new cord. If one happens to be too lazy to do that just pull up on the button and wedge something under it. The ones with the more key looking goodie just need a nail or something like it put into the hole. You have to hold it but if you’re ripping it off who cares.

I’m not giving the crooks any ideas because if they want one it’s gone. Then there is the just tow it off and throw it into the back of a pick up.

I know one owner’s manual I saw showed how to bypass the switch for emergency running.

PWC’s can be fun but there is a place for them. We dive off of them in some cases and they aren’t that bad at all if it’s big enough.

I would never operate a boat without atleast one and preferably two extra safety key/release things. I know on the two boats my family owns, we have atelast three on every boat....

So if someone wanted to steal it, they'd just have to find the toolbox....




and Clayjar, it might be an offer....I've never worked on a PWC before....if you buy the parts and get them to me, I might be willing to try though :) My dad knows much more about engines than I do and would probably help me somewhat. I would have to find out how to run water through it for on-land testing, I'm pretty certain the donkey ears won't work but I bet they make something for it. Is the registration up to date on it so I could run it on the water without getting fined? (becuase the real test is actually using it :) ) And, do you own or could you get the repair manual for it? What all is wrong with it?
 
A buddy and I have been using our slightly modified waverunners to dive from for 3 months now.It is cheaper on gas than the boat and we have dove with them anchored as well as drift diving with them as you would a kyak.

We used a cb radio antenna to fly the dive flag from and when you are done it bends down and bungies in place, also we have had no real balance issues.We set it up to carry up to two tanks but, ususally mount the BCD to the tank and put regs on before leaving shore, have rolled off into the water but, usually just put some air in the BCD and float it in the water then get in it.
Sounds crazy but, it does work.
If we are not drift diving we hook the two together and use an anchor for each, as a back up if one comes free the other will hold it (one is none and two is one philosopy).Yes the boat is nice too but, the pwc's are easier to take out.
 
I've done it but I did get a letter from a PADI course director (in another state)informing me that it was not safe. (I was towed by the North Shore lifeguards, on the rescue sled)

The thing I would really encourage you to do, is to wear a necklace reg in case
you fall off in a surf zone.

It can't be that much worse than kayak diving, especially if you go slow and have a marine radio....unless you have a crabby buddy. I think wearing your gear and going slow would be the way.

Actually, the first thing I did when I got it was install a flush kit, so all it takes is connecting a garden hose. (I even added a nice big brass ball valve on the hose side of the quick release so you don't have to rush to and from the tap to not flood or burn up the engine ;))

The registration is, of course, up to date (as I'm going to get around to fixing it "any day now"), but I'm not sure whether the service manual is intact (it may have been "cleaned up" when its home was raided for a garage sale).

Of course, I probably should trade some work with someone around here to get it running. If I let you get it running, I might never see it again (and not because it'd become a dive *site*, either). :D
 
The dad says he think's it'd be alot of fun :) (to fix, not to use.)

As for getting it back, there's always the Spring Megadive ;)

If you are serious, then I'd be glad to work on it, you just have to get it down to me--fall Megadive is October 19-21st!
