Waterproof case for regular flashlight?

Is there something special about diving lights other than waterproofing?

Couldn't you just make a waterproof case for a normal light?
 
Yep, but the case would cost more than a dive light.
 
Well...a case of some sort could likely be contrived of PVC or acrylic tubing, a lot depends on what you want the light to do.

An alternative, wacky idea I saw on the internet somewhere is to take a weather resistant flashlight---i.e. one that is fairly well sealed, but not pressure proof---and fill it with mineral oil. As long as there are no air bubbles the result is pressure proof, but what a mess to change batteries, eh?

If you are really interested in the subject i suggest the dive light companion by airspeed press.
 
With dive lights being as cheap as they are, I don't think it's worth the trouble.

Agreed, but some people are interested in how stuff works and I can understand that.
