82° last weekend off the beach. And I froze in my 3mm and skins. But I get cold easily.

Good to see I'm not the only warm water wuss out there! Under about 84-85 and I find that a 3mm isn't enough after the first 2 dives. I've been debating whether to take my full 3mm and 1mm, or just endure the teasing and stick to the 5mm. The plan is for 4 days of diving so I think I'll take the 5mm and that. If I get a chance to do any afternoon or night dives I won't have to think twice about it.

Gee, thanks. I'm diving Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun. What is considered "moderate chop?" in this area? We'll be on a 62' boat so the biggest issue is entry and exit. I've been very spoiled with 3 Cozumel trips this year but 2-3 feet is what I've had on many winter Cayman trips. Was really hoping for calm, quiet, nice weather. How is the current usually effected? (I've never dived in this area before)

Don't look at the intercoastal part, that is protected waterway, you will be out in the open ocean. Currents can run strong especially if it is N/S.
10-15 knots is very doable off a boat, anything close to 20 knots you better pack your Boninine and/or the dive may get cancelled.

Unfortunately, with this much wind and waves, there could be a significant current and the visibility could drop to 20-30ft. The bottom water temp could also drop.

Keep checking that website, because the marine forecast changes day to day. I don't know but maybe other folks here can recommend if you should head further north to the Palm Beach area or further south towards Key Biscayne.

We're part of a group going to FL with the guy who owns the boat. We don't usually do group trips and have no idea what his plan will be or what the others divers will want. It's a bigger boat that spends most of the year doing trips to the Bahamas.

Rough surface is fine. Current (up to 3 knots) is not an issue. The 20-30 ft vis doesn't thrill me. The biggest reasons I don't dive locally in NY/NJ is that I get cold in the Caribbean and I like to be able to see where I'm going. ;)

Weather can change. I'm not going to worry to much since there's not anything I can do about it. If nothing else it will be a new experience, and it is still 4 days out of the office :D

CBulla:
It is not a good time to be diving. On the west coast we're 66 (started out in the mid 40's) and the wind is a steady 15-20...

Brrrr. That's almost as cool as we are in NYC today. Dive trips are risky this time of the year. It's too bad you can't wait until a couple days before and you know what you'll get before arranging the days off, getting air, etc.

Hopefully it will improve and we can at least get some dives in between Thursday and Sunday.

Again, thanks everyone for your local insight. It's much appreciated.
