Kentucky has more navigatable waterways than any other state besides HI and AK. Would be nice if we could eat the fish here.

Mercury comes from burning coal to fuel our powerplants. This is a very widespread problem on the eastern half of the U.S. PCBs I am not real familiar with. Not sure where they come from.

An unnamed soul in the capital yesterday told me they thought Eastern Kentucky Power was a major major contributor to the pollution of Kentucky's water.

I've got an itchin to go fishin but heck, guess I'll just have to wait.

This is an excellent link. Scares the hell out of me though. I'm pretty sure my lake diving is 100% over!

Ah come on! No risk - no fun! Besides just how many fish have you eaten
while scuba diving? I would be more concerned about warm wetsuit pollution
caused in quarrys. I read an article one time on the urine content in pools,
just imagine a small closed in quarry with no chlorine treatment.
I personally would not be concerned with pcb's unless your eating the fish
or stirring the scum on the bottom to mix in your next drink.

You ever been through a bone marrow transplant?

LoL, surprisingly no. I've been exposed to high levels of pcb's from old
leaking capacitors and transformers. I was raised in the 50's-60's in the
west, downwind of nuclear fallout, played in the ddt fog from the city
mosquito spray. In my work environment I've been exposed multiple
times to phosgene gas, breathed the asbestos air in old dilapidated
buildings. I guess you can say I'm a fortunate son.
When diving I'm more concerned with age and dcs.
For enlightenment visit one of my favorite sites, do a search on pcb's.

See you in the water!

I've done the research on PCB's and about many other toxins. Heck if you ever used chemicals on your lawn, parts of it are derived from left over agent-orange. I've been exposed to mosquito spray, asbestos (who hasn't, until recently brake pads.....) and other chemicals. I spent 5 months in the Ky. River and a week in the Ohio River working before I came down with a rare lyphoma that had leukemik actions. Spent many months on high-dose chemo then the transplant..... I blame it on chemicals in the water. I have a friend in the EPA in Frankfort that has shown me some unbelievable aspects about Kentucky's waterways. The state has a full advisory on eating fish caught in Kentucky, for that matter all the great lakes are under the same advisory. That says enough for me. But to take it further they also recomend NOT frying your catch due to the fishing cooking in it's own toxins. They recomend roasting or broiling the fish. They also recomend not intaking much fish.

This can all by found searching thru that first link listed. I was told the state doesn't want to exactly advertise this because for one it would kill tourism at the lakes. The Ohio Navy lives down at Cumberland you know...

Our waterways are screwed.

I'll take a quarry filled by rain water with it's own mini eco system any day.

The Florida springs are probably the cleanest thing on the planet if the water has been filtered out in the limestone for as long as the scienctist claim it has.

Who knows
