Diver0001:
Pete -- I think you should back away now and just close the thread.
Now?! He should have done that last week.

dweeb:
And its sadder still when we live in a world where everything has to drip with syrup, and we can't be honest with our opinions because someone might not feel absolutely wonderful at the end of the day. .

This has certainly been an interesting thread. It's like I really got to know some people on the "board". Dweeb, I found you a bit abrasive at first but after reading more...you're right. If you aren't a lawyer, you should consider the profession.

wow...

whatever happened to disagreeing with civility?

everyone in this board is welcomed to honestly state
their opinions.

it's sad that people can't seem to recognize the difference
between being honest and a personal attack.

i shall illustrate:

being honest: you are engaging in a dangerious practice.
if you continue, you might get killed. you need to learn about this before you hurt yoruself.

personal attack: what idiot gave you your c-card? you are
a shame to the diving world. crawl back into the hole
from whence you emerged... etc.

hope you can see the difference

I'm with you guys...

huh?

your rights end where the rights of another begin. you can be honest, but you
can't attack other people.

i am not sure how to make it any clearer

NetDoc:
JHelmuth,

Please check out post #33.

You're right. My apologies. I did not tie that in with his getting the answer. No harm meant...

Maybe if you used the term "ad hominem" everyone would understand better. ;)

Last time I checked no one had the right not to be insulted.

Problem is, this ain't a courtroom.

Beating somebody into submission in a court of law is a sign of professional ability.

Doing it on a discussion board is a sign of social dysfunction.

To everything there is a place, time, and purpose ... what works in one place is ... to use NetDoc's term ... counterproductive in another.

The purpose of this board is to provide people a place to ask questions. If they believe they are going to get browbeaten into submission for asking the wrong question, they won't come here.

Andy,

Although we've never met, I think I learned a little about you by reviewing this thread... If I'm ever in sunny FL, lets do some diving, you sound like a fun and level-headed guy. ;)
