Hummmm... I would like to know if it is a fake or not. Wouldn't surprise me if they were useing them for real though.

I don't know for sure about the picture above - though I tend to believe it's real - but it's absolutely true that the Navy is using Sea Lions and Dolphins for ship/port protection. From what I've heard on the radio, the zealots at PETA are even loudly complaining about putting them in harm's way. I love critters as much as the next guy, but the safety of a shipful of sailors is way more important to me than a few trained sea-mammals.

It looks like that dolphin has his HID light head on the wring flipper. Shouldn’t it be held with the left flipper?

Yes! From looking at this photo, it is obvious that this dolphin is a stroke!!..

I was watching the news and they showed the same dolphin and solder on tv so I guess there real.

Pug, I think you should go diving again by the navy ships so we can find out how there marking the divers. You not scared of a little dolphin are ya.

I think the HID light is really a frikkin lazer. They just couldn't mount it on there heads cause it would obstruct there blow holes

A spokesman for the Navy’s 5th Fleet in Bahrain, Lt. j.g. Josh Frey, told MSNBC.com that the dolphins are more naturally suited for underwater mine detection than humans are.

Now, I want to see some hard facts supporting this hypothesis... sounds like mere speculation to me! :tease:

While I was in the Marine Corps in San Diego, had a buddy in the Navy that was assigned to that program. So....yes, they really do use dolphins.
Now.....are the dolphins DIR??

They were talking about it on cnn this morning. I had to take off to work so I couldn't listen to the whole story. Anyone catch it?
