OOPS

Just looked at the poll again, and I did mean that all of the < signs are supposed to be < signs!

It just means you haven't gotten that far in your educational studies.

Hope that clears things up...I know vis is still < 5 feet though.

Knavey once bubbled...

Geez, I didn't read your profile but I'm betting that you work for a government somewhere.

You have taken an easy survey and made it hard. :)

Anyway, I have an Associates' Degree and I make over 75K. Also, I am smart enough to know that we don't show the 75k as income. So, where does that put me on the poll?

I got an AS degree in Marine Technology about 30 years ago. I've worked as a diver for a university, at a govt oceanographic lab and onboard oceanographic ships for about 20 years. I've circumnavigated the world, visited and dived all over the world, started out with Digital Computers and VAX and ended up running a shipboard PCs and Winders 2000 system. Actually started out with a clipboard and Culbertson slide rule but don't want to show my age.

When I worked on the ships it was 7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day, 30-40 days at a time. There was lots of overtime, room and board were paid for, and I didn't need a hotel room while visiting a lot of great ports.

I'm now retired and living within a 5 minute drive of a south florida beach dive site. I get out any time it's flat and the vis is good. I've just finished a vocational electronics course, an ABYC electrical course and start working on a Digital Multimedia AS Degree in the fall.

Was it worth it?--- hell yes

I have a degree (BS) in Forestry.

I work as a CPA and a CVA. A CVA is a business valuator.

The accounting firm I started with did not hire accounting majors but individuals who knew both accounting and a business.

Yes the degree was definitely worth it.

Slowly but surely it's paying off.

But I want more money so I can buy more dive s!*t and dive more often.

Then again, if everyone on this board, as well as everyone in the world gave me just $1.00. One Dollar! My problems would be solved.

C'mon, ONE DOLLAR, not too much to ask. Is it?

I will be terse. I have a degree from a very good school. Its taught me some simple things. The degree is worth the paper its printed on. Knowledge is a blessing and what you do with it is up to you. I know some very RICH people who are terribly unhappy. Call me simple simon but I'll take happy any day. since you guys dive I'm sure you know what I mean. Going down anyone?:)

To the distress of most folks who hold similar degree, I would tell you that a Doctorate in Psychology isn't worth the genuine imitation sheepskin it's printed on.

Respectfully submitted,

Chief Iconoclastic Officer

Actually,

I do think this is a simple poll.

My background is NO degree! I joined the Navy as a nuclear reactor operator, got out after 6 years and worked around commercial nuclear power until I decided that it wasn't worth the headache.

I am now working for one of the electric companies in Florida on Gas Turbine engines that produce power for the electric plants.

Excellent money, but no formal degree. I enjoy the work and this IS what counts.

Just finished a couple of specialty courses for diving...figure I will slowly work my way to Dive Master eventually, but am in no hurry to try to get there.

MS degree in Kinesiology, and it was required for the job I absolutely LOVE. (especially since I'm the boss and I have a computer with which I can play on the 'net all day :D )

My degree and all the credit hours there after spent furthering my education were 110% completely worthless, a waste of time, and ruined my credit. While there are a few classes I enjoyed, I can't say that they truely helped in the scope of my profession. In fact, the only reason I am where I am now is completely on my own merit, hardwork, and determination. If I knew 8 years ago what I do now, I would have not gone to college at all, just done the tech school for knowlege in areas unfamiliar and been done with it.
