I saw the Utila Aggressor parked by Cocoview on Roatan for much of the week. While they list Mary's place as a destination, it seems like they were spending a lot of time even East of there. Were conditions on Utila tough to handle that week?

One of the complaints about that liveaboard is that they don't really go anywhere you can't easily get to from a land based operation.

I have not personally dove with that boat

True, but you can't go everywhere they go from a single land based operation. Depends on what you are looking for.

Back to the OPs original question, I understand that the rain was particularly torential last week in Utila. Whether or not that affected the UA's itinerary or not, I can't say.

Chaseh's or Dan's posts might be open to interpretation, but it is not all that uncommon for the Utila Aggressor to only dive at just CCV's dive sites all week. Gas has gotten very costly.

CCV for a week $1000. The Utila Aggressor for a week: $2200

Depends on what your looking for. ;)

While the Bay Islands (not just Utila - unless RTB/GJA etc managed to build that insulating bubble finally :D) were quite wet last week, the rain usually has little to do with boat operations, other than having to search harder for good vis sites. Surge/waves making a crossing unsafe, or a storm system moving into the area are usally the main culprits when weather is involved.

In the case of the Aggressor (and I've never been a guest on their boat, just what I've witnessed working in UTL) they usually tailor their itn to the needs of the incoming group each week. For instance, if all the group was arriving through RTB, they might pick them up there, dive RTB, GJA, Cayos, move over to Utila for a day or two, and than back to RTB for the flight out... If all the group is coming in through SAP, the itn usualy starts Utila, RTB, GJA, Cayos, back to UTL for the flight out. Sometimes they've even picked them up in LCE! It's just a matter of what they need for the incoming group on any given week.

I'm sorry but this just isn't true. It is very rare for the Aggressor to stay at or near one dive site for more than a day at most. The only exceptions are weather or guests requests. I've been on this boat and visited 4 different islands, lived in Utila and saw the boat move around the Island, and lived in Roatan and saw the boat move around that Island.

Yes , you can't get off the boat often but then again, you can dive 5 times a day in comfort with almost no effort and visit more dive sites than any land based operation. Yes it cost more but you get more dives, great food and drinks and outstanding service.
