Hello,

I am fairly new to diving, and have done all of my dives in cold water, MN lakes. I am going to Belize in Novemnber and will be diving for a couple of days. I have what may be considered a silly question, but here it is anyway. My question relates to my current equipment, in particular my fins. I have cold water fins with which I wear neoprene boots. Will this combination be to warm for Caribbean diving, or will this be OK for down there? Also, as I do not own a BCD or regulator yet, is it worth bringing down my mask, fins and snorkel, or should I just rent it for the week?

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Yes, you can use your neoprene boots with your current fins. Take your mask, fins & boots. And your snorkel. You may want to actually snorkel while there! Take a light if you have one.

Enjoy!

Hi Dan, I don't think your bootie/fin combo will be too warm. You can easily offset that by using a thinner wetwuit. And I don't like to change fins. It feels weird at first. Same with your mask. It doesn't take much space anyway. You can probably get by with a 2 or 3mm full suit for Nov. Some say you do'nt need one but I use a 4mm body with 3 mm on arms and legs. I'm a wimp when it comes to cold. You can rent high quality bcds and regs here. One new dive shop on the Placencia penninsula rents ScubaPro MK25s (their top of the line reg) and all new gear. Where are you going in Belize? Hank

Obviously you are NOT properly equipped to make this dive trip. Therefore, I will do you a favor and go on the trip for you. Don't thank me, just mail me the tickets right away.

I've gots dive boots and shoes (Deep See Aqua Purge). Use the same fins with either. Just make sure the fin doesn't ride up above shoe.

The shoe makes for a less weird suntan when you wear it on the boat all day and seems to drain better.

Thanks for the quick replies!

android: Don't think the suntan will be an issue. I'm also a golfer so I have some very bright white ankles already!!

Rick: I think I'll hold on to the tickets!! Been looking forward for this trip for a LONG TIME!!

Thanks again!

Hank -

We are spending 8 days on Ambergris Caye. Any recommendations of things not to miss there? Diving and non-diving related?

Thanks,

Dan

you feet can get warm. mine do in the boots, but it won't really bother you and you only feel it when you get out of the water and open your boots and realize how hot the water in them is. bring your abc with you.

LoL dont worry about the booties, I also dive in cold water (40 degrees) and I used my booties while I was in cozumel three weeks ago. They werent too hot.

Im also going to Belize. . .and the cayman islands.. . . .and porta mia. . . .and cozumel again in march :P

Take whatever gear you have, may as well and almost always will be better and better fitting than what you would rent. Tropical booties are nicer, but cold water ones are fine.
