I got certified in January. My husband and I are actively planning a couple of dive vacations. However, I don't want to save my diving for just for vacations. I want to work on my skills as often as possible (need to get the bouancy thing under control) and grow more comfortable in the water. I'm looking for something that can be done on the weekends when ever we have the time and the $$. Quick local trips whether it's a quarry, lake, etc. How should I go about finding someplace nearby (we live in Connecticut). What resources are available? The LDS? Thanks.

I would think that your LDS(s) would be a great place to start looking. Perhaps they have a Dive Club associated with the shop, which would give you people to dive with and even have some social events as well. Most dive shops have local dive outtings as well as trips, usually tropical and/or warm water trips.

Bienvenue! Wilkommen! Hola!

Good to see you here on SB.

If you're interested in diving in your local area, check out The Great Lakes Wrecking Crew forum: http://www.scubaboard.com/f188.html.

Meanwhile, where are the vacations you've planned? Inquiring minds HAVE to know!

DSDO,

Hey Fin,
I would search out dive clubs in your area. They may or may not be affiliated with a dive shop. I've found that the better ones have no ties to the LDS. Also, if you're near a university, check out what their dive program is. You will be surrounded by divers of all skill levels. When divers are not diving, the thing they love to do the most is talk about their experiences. There's a wealth of knowledge out there. Welcome to the sport and enjoy!!!!!
