Simple question really, I have to go to a conference in Wakiki (Oahu) and will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki (where the conference is). I and my wife are certified divers (myself for about 15 years and her for about one). I was curious if anyone had the lowdown on how to get out on a nice easy dive (for the wife) without transportation. Are there any shops that do pick-ups? I don't really want to lug my gear bag if at all possible and renting a car just for the scuba diving seems to be a pricing option. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There's always "The Bus" Oahu has one of the best bus services in the country - $1.75 to get anywhere on the island really. Carrying a lot of stuff on it may be problematic, but they go everywhere...

Aloha, Tim

Yes I knew about the public transportation system and was actually intending to use it, however, carrying (wet) scuba gear sounds a little uninviting after a dive. I was wondering if there were pickup services (like for instance there are on guam). Perhaps the best thing to do is just to rent a car for a day or two...

Do a search (scuba waikiki) it will come up with a few dive ops then all you have to do is e them and ask your questions then book.

I did a boat dive with:

They did a hotel pick-up and drop off. There are probably more that do as well but this was the only outfit I used so I don't know the names of any others offhand. I should imagine that most of them do though.

Reeftrekkers will pick you up in Waikiki. It's listed right at the top of their website so they must do it often. http://www.reeftrekkers.com/

As Kim said, I'm sure most of them do. The concentration of potential divers is in Waikiki but the good diving is elsewhere. PM justleesa, she's a mod here and affiliated with Oahu Scuba Divers.

I found nearly all dive tour operators on Oahu provide hotel pick-up. I used Island Divers last time. Pickup was on-time and service was good.

Yup same experience here... I usually dive with Ocean Concepts and they make a run every morning almost. Just call them up. Even for shore dive you can work it out with the operator.

I am a frequent visitor (work related) and even if I have a rental car I go with the hotel pickup service. Why not... less stress and more socializing with the people you will be buddying up with. And frankly driving yourself around the Waikiki area can drive you nuts! I usually end up walking everywhere.

Isn't that the truth!! LOL. I had a rental to get to the North Shore and dive privately with someone - but Honolulu was basically a nightmare!!

I just returned from Waikiki Wednesday and I dove with DiveOahu after AAA Diving didn't pick me up as scheduled. Brian at Dive Oahu rescued my day of diving at last minutes notice. They picked me up and dropped me off at my hotel. The divemasters were knowledgeble about the areas we dove and all in all I had 2 good dives with them. Try reserving the dives on the internet for a discount from what I paid though. http://www.diveoahu.com/
