Ok, so I took my tanks - Catalina al80's in for their first hydro. Normally the lds does our vis's, but the guys said they do them as well... What the heck, save a trip... So I get the tanks back, hydro stamp looks ok, but the vis sticker just says inspected by visualeddy and no date. And they gave me these lovely graphs for each tank. I must say these guys are not used to dealing with the general public, seem to do fire/police, etc... So my question is 1) did I get the right things done and 2) will the lds fill the tanks??? Number 2 is not that critical since we fill our own via our club, but still would like to know in case we travel with them!
Thanks, Mike

If the VIP sticker has no date, most dive shops won't fill the tanks. So my guess is that you will probably have to get a new vis, unless you can get VisualEddy to put on a VIP sticker with a date on it.

Wondering if I had to use a lds for fills if I showed them the paperwork for VisualEddy if it would be accepted... Mean time I'll give them a buzz to see if they have and "normal" vis stickers.

you may find out that many facilities require not only a current vis sticker, but the sticker must have the name of the facility on it.Many LDS do not accept generic stickers ..

Define generic.

A sticker that doesn'y have a shop name, address, phone number, date, so that the can verify the credentials of who did the inspection. The visual eddy sticker show only that at some point in time the tank was eddy tested.

Saving a trip to the LDS seems to have its consequences. All said & done it probably would had saved you a lot of time & hassle to make that trip. You may want to call your LDS & ask him if he will accept a 'visualeddy'...

I believe that DOT is requiring VE on AL cylinders at time of Hydro but the Dive shop will probably still want to do the Annual Vis inspection

Well as I said I'm not really concerned about my lds since I fill my own locally. But lets say I am at Dutch Springs (semi-local quarry) and need a fill. If I have the certificates with me and the tanks have the visualeddy sticker and the current hydro would they fill them? Not that I feel the need for more than 2 tanks in cold water :)

I am just curious why you needed to get a Eddy Current Test? I ask that because of the following:
1. If this is the first hydro since manufacture, unless its been sitting in a warehouse for 20 years, you probably wouldnt need it. Eddy current is for tanks made of 6351 T6 Aluminum alloy. If the tank was manufactured after 1989, it would not need it. That alloy stopped being used in December 1989.
2. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure Catalina never used 6351 Alloy in their tank manufacturing.

Did the HYdro shop charge extra for this service?
