Thanks to the crappy performance of the US dollar's exchange rate over the past year, Viking and Poseidon will be raising their prices as of 1 Feb '04.
So far the actual increase will not reflect the entire 30% drop of the dollar's value against the European currencies.
sample increases of the MSRP:
vulcanized drysuits: $60 - $80 higher
regs: $65-$75 higher
Thinsulate undies: only $10 higher (they're made in Canada)

MMMmmm, so who's taking the hit on the currency fluntuation?
Currency fluctuations cause lots of havoc in a global market.
When there's a significant change in cuurency value then someone looses.
There's typically 4 parties effected. 1 the manufacuturer, 2 import/distributer, 3 retailer and finally 4 the end customer. Such fluctuations can be absorbed at anyone level or distributed amonst all the parties. With only an est 10 -15% being passed on the the end customer it sounds like the loss is being shared, so as to keep the product competitively priced. The same would appear to be happening with the Canadian made undies as well. The Canadian /US exchange has shifted 30% as well, going from $1.64 last year to present $1.32 Canadian to buy $1 US.

Close but not quite, Mike... it was never at $1.64. It was the other way around - $0.64 US = $1 Cdn. That's the equivalent of about $1.50. It rose throughout the year to $1.32 Cdn= $1 US, or $0.77 cents US.

Prices will be going up in February for Inspiration parts, a combination of the PPP of the dollar and Ambient raising their prices

Ah it's the memory that goes first.

I stand corrected
