Actually, Sea Hares, like all Opisthobranchs, are hermaphrodites so they possess both male and female sex organs. See this detailed response from the late Sea Slug Forum for more info.

It's a wonder that opisthobranchs can make it out of their houses every day.

When we took Dave's boat to Catalina, I came up after a dive, threw my fins into the boat only to get yelled at by Dave, who said, "HEY!, you almost hit my new pet!"

He lugged the biggest black sea hare I've ever seen onto the boat. This thing was a monster, over 36" long (the boat has one of those floors with a measuring tape built into it) and had to weight at least 30 lbs. We released it after taking some pics and toying with it for a few minutes.

Only after I did some research when we got back did I realize that it may have been a record sized animal.
