All those mola mola aren't dead, they are just missing their fins that the sea lions rip off so they don't have to chase them down when they get hungry latter. The sea lions can't eat them whole, so they bite down and shake their head to rip off a piece. Once they swallow that piece they go down and get it again for another bite.

Mola mola also get hit by boaters not looking at what's in front of them, as they will lay flat on the surface so birds can land on them to peck off parasites.

What the sea lions don't come back for, the sunstars will clean up.

We did see a few covered with bat stars, it was just a bit too somber for me to want to film. And someone on the boat mentioned the saving for later and ripping to shreds bit as well. Circle of life and all, I'm good with that. But in the words of Sir David Attenborough, "Damn Nature, you scary!"
