40' at South Bedford Island and 20-30 ' at Beechy Head today.
How was the current out there?
It was supposed to be a small-exchange day (2.5 knot max at Race Passage), but it was actually faster than that near slack, especially at Bedford. I dove in the "shadow" of the island so I was fine, but it was spooky to see the rapids runing around the corners of the island, knowing that I would be diving in the small calm area in the middle. Slack here, by the way has nothing to do with either the Race Passage or the Juan de Fuca East current tables. I'd guess it was about 1.5 hours before the Race Passage one. Beechy Head was another horror story. Underwater it went from a dead calm to a waterfall flowing straight down within about a second. Excellent dives though. Very colourful and lots of fish.
