Hmm...

I just checked wetsand after reading this. It does look pretty nasty for NW facing beaches, which were in the 7-10 range predicted for sat-sun. But is looked to me like SW facing beaches were 2-3ft on the graph and on the colored map was showing the 2-3 foot colors from Ventura to San Clemente area. Someone wanna tell me if I'm reading that right?

But yeah if it is 6-8' at Vets I think I would pass on that for sure.

Nick

Sorry folks I have to flake!

Unlike Mr. Cody who lives 10 min away, with an 80 mile drive i can't take the chance.

I'm sitting this one out!

Come on guys, this is The Beach Crabs:D We go look, then decide. Hey, Tony and Nick, I am driving down to San Diego early in the morning, or I would drive down there tonight.:mooner:

I hope to see everyone at the beach soon,

Rick

Heed Rick's advice. I was supposed to go to Vets on Wednesday with another group. I got a call around 4PM from one saying he just checked the computer and said waves were at 4 ft and a storm was coming in. He also called Dive and Surf shop and they said "no way for diving tonight". So we cancelled on that information and didn't bother to go down and look. Thursday night I'm reading ScubaBoard with multiple dive reports from Vets Wednesday and everyone said it was flat!

Moral: Go and look like Rick says.

Yippie!!!

I plan on being there, unless no one decides to show up or some outrageous storm blows in.

As a reminder, I have a UK Light Canon 100HID someone can borrow, 8 glow sticks (for people that want a tank light), and two back up lights people can use if they need a light.

Look forward to meeting everybody.

Sorry Rickster can't make it :(

BTW, here is a R & D (Research and Development) picture of the new dive light I'll be trying:

Stopped by Vet's Beach last night at about 8:30.
There were some waves but NOTHING big.
Talked to some divers that had just come out and they said the conditions were great. :sharkattack:
They had good Viz after the 1st canyon drop of 25 feet. :ppd:

I'll go by there again this afternoon and if time permits again tonight.

FYI - I'll be at the same spot Sunday at 6 PM even if the waves crashig the shores are 10' tall tonight. :bananalama:

I might be there we will see in the morn :) if so there will be a few of us :)

Report from this Wed night is here: Linky if I had a nickel for every great dive I did that the reports said would be bad, I'd have enough to buy a third scooter.

In nearly 250 dives at Vets, I've been shut out maybe 3 or 4 times. Only when it looks like this do we pass...

Its a West-facing beach that is nearly immune from the common SoCal Southern Swell that slams Malibu and Orange County. It has the large breakwater on the north that is the harbor, and Topaz jetty on the south. And that little piece of land called the PV Peninsula does a pretty good job catching stuff blasting North. Vets is one of the most protected sites in SoCal, and its very, very rare that Vets is "un-divable."

You gotta show up to know-up. There is zero chance of it looking like it did above on Sunday night.

Show up. If its not for you, go to Rivera Village a few blocks away and have a nice dinner at HT Grill or Redondo Brewing.
