We were out at Venice Beach on Monday, We swam out about one hundred yards, and we didn't find anything but a bunch of sand dollars. Visibility was a solid 2 inches (felt like I was at home), and my buddy and I hovered about 2 inches over the bottom and worked our way out holding hands to about one hundred yards. Gave up and came back after about 30 minutes. Put up our gear and headed down to the beach with collanders we got at walmart for $1 each. Found about fifty shark teeth of which about 5 were in pristine condition, 1 was about an inch. Overall it was still a fun day. Locals on beach tell us we needed to go another fifty yards more to get to main fossil bed, we will try again next year.

spaz,

I was wondering how your trip went, there has been some storms and high winds that probably churned up the bottom.

The beach itself is nice, I hope you enjoyed the scenery. Please don't get disappointed and maybe you can come back at a later time.

Walter, my wife, and I were there on Saturday. We were blown out, high surf and the rollers looked like solid mud. So we looked for shells.

We usually go out 300 yards or so if I remember right. It has been a while. I'm happy you had a good time.
