As for how to find. I've dove most of the sites along the Venice area, and found Alhambra street to be the most productive.

To find them, head directly west from the two white drainage pipes. You will hit a sandbar around 100 feet out. You'll want to drop down 20 yards or so past the sandbar. The bottom will either be barren sand, or lots of little rubble. You are looking for the patches of rubble. You will find them in the 13'-15' depth, and if you keep heading west again at 18'-21'. When you hit a patch, you can work them north to south, usually there's a slight current that will help.

I typically just pick them up off of the surface, but you can also fan or dig, if there is a slight current and the vis is good (otherwise don't bother). I've never found any large teeth by digging, but others have. Yesterday, I picked up 408 teeth right off the top, including a meg and 1/2 meg.

You want to pay special attention to the west side of any bottom structure (rocks, mostly), also if you come across "moguls" or sets of small ridges, examine between them carefully, they're usually a jackpot.

Finally, if you want to do the alhambra spot, you may want to do it soon. They're destroying the beach (with a "renourishment" cover), and the barges were out there preparing this weekend.

Ok, just got on today, thanks scubadad for starting the thread! I was hoping the weather would hold out for another great beach dive on the West coast this next weekend. Might be iffy now! We might have to go to Ginnie instead.....

Anyone have any location and setup tips for the Venice beach area??

Check your emails. I sent the information already to you. There have been several pass posts with all the information and you have those in your emails.

Thanks, I did get them!

Thanks to ReefGuy, good description. Do you know if it the area will still be there by this Saturday?

Yes, while they have barges there, they don't appear to be doing much yet. The issue with Saturday will be the vis. It's been quite stormy this week and it isn't supposed to let up until Friday.

Also, they are not dumping south of the pier, we didn't find many teeth, but Colin made his big find there.

We are getting to decision time on Saturday's dive.

I'm coming from Daytona Beach and would hate to waste a drive over to Venice Beach if the vis is bad.

Any thoughts on what the vis might be on Saturday? Should we try it or just make other dive plans?

Input would be helpful.

It's hard to predict the vis at Venice Beach, but I would say that, given the two hour drive, another weekend might be a better choice. It's still raining over here. It's supposed to clear up for this weekend, but it usually takes a couple of days for the gulf to clear up after storms.

If you do want to try this weekend, Sunday might be better.

And the difference between this weekend and Sunday is......??? :06:

With the rains, it takes time for the run off to clear up some.. sooo, should today be our last day of rains Sunday will be likely to be clearer than Saturday will be. :)

I'll be there this Sunday again... diving guess where??!?!!? We'll also have Foo and family diving with us!! :D

Alhambra or the main beach Cbulla?

Sunday Alhambra??? I would like to join you, I think Smokaire is busy, so I will be solo, around what time do you think you will be there??
