I notice that the "South Island Divers" sub-forum was created under "Western Canada Dive Clubs and Groups" but is not being used.

People are posting under the "Vancouver Island Divers" sticky thread instead, but this is just one thread and it could get very long and might be a challenge to discuss one topic at a time (I seem to have trouble with the threaded-view not working correctly for long threads so I have to switch to linear view sometimes).

Question ... Would it make sense to:

  1. rename the "South Island Divers" sub-forum under "Western Canada Dive Clubs and Groups" to "Vancouver Island Divers"
  2. move the "Vancouver Island Divers" sticky thread under the Western Canada sub-forum into the Vancouver Island Divers sub-forum?

Might make it easier to discuss independent topics relevant to VI divers

Thoughts?

Great idea, glad you thought of it.:D

About 2 dozen herring boats have been anchored in Nanoose bay for the last couple of days. They sailed this morning so I assume the spawn is upon us. Wreckseeker, sunnyboy and myself are going to dive Tyee to Dolphin tonight and I will post a vis report later on.

Well, the "South Island Divers" is an actual club, so I think they want their name "as is".

I sort of hashed this out with the mods when the club first made their forum, and the decision was to start with a sticky thread and if interest warranted, we would request a full forum for "Vancouver Island Divers".

So - if interest keeps up, then I am certainly in favor of starting a new forum called "Vancouver Island Divers".

Cheers,

-S

Hey Dave how long is the spawn last anyway, I was thinking of taking a trip up island in late April early May. I just don't want to trip all the way there for bad viz.

Cheers

Well it seems to be in full swing here there was about 10ftvis near the top and about 20ftvis at 190ft. It probably won't get much worse but probably not much better for the next month.

Sweet...now that all my gear is serviced/assembled the vis goes to hell. I noticed the armada of fishing vessels camped around Mistaken island. I have a feeling that the spawn won't be much of an issue next year...

Chrome Island...vis 10'...lots of herring carcasses.

Norris Rocks...vis 20'...lots of lions as usual. One of the guys from the last dive @ Norris took some video check it out:
YouTube - ScubleTV's Channel

That video of the sea lion dive looked pretty intense...is that the typical response? My wife was all for the dive until she noticed the 'lions outnumbered the divers by at least 30:1.
