Hello all, I have a steel 72 tank that I rarely use anymore, just had it hydro tested and vip this past March and I am considering selling it. If I do decide to part with it, what would a fair asking price be? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I just paid $25 for what you are selling, actually I paid $50 for 2 but with no current VIP and only 2 years left on hydro.

However I dont need VIP, and intended to tumble them and rehydro anyway so in the end I will have much more invested but only because I want to not necessarily because I have to. If your tanks dont need a tumble than I would say $50 or maybe $75 since you have fresh vis and hydro but no more than $75.

with that said I will give you $50

I just received 4 for taking them from a dive shop. They needed, and passed hydro and vip, so... I guess i am in them $30.00 each.

A dive shop gave you four tanks? If that's correct, you scored. Yours is only the second reply to my thread, and the first reply estimated a pretty low value. I'll probably just keep the tank in case a friend needs to borrow it, or just because it does'nt even seem like it's worth selling.

75 bucks sounds about right to me as well if in hydro. Some 72's are collectible depending on make and year and valves to vintage collectors. I have a bunch and never paid more than 15 bucks apiece because I got them when everyone switched to HP aluminum and nobody wanted the 72 LP tanks, except for me. They are great tanks with good bouyancy characteristics and hold enough air for many of the dives I make.

I have two other 72's that have old j valves on them and are in need of hydro. I bought them several years ago for about $40-50. I'm not sure what I'll do with these two. It's not like they take up a lot of room in the garage or anything.

the biggest issue with tanks of any size is shipping. I would be happy to pay more for a tank if shipping was cheaper but I would assume a 72 would cost $30-40 just in shipping so a total investment of $75 means the tanks is only worth about $30-40 too and that assumes its in hydro. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but even though several people like those tanks they just are not worth much anymore especially when you consider shipping costs.

I paid 50 bucks each for my 2 72's with new VIP and Hydro and full. Granted they have old style fittings, but work just dandy:D

Why do deals like this only come along when I am broke?
