I just don't log dives
My wife, brother and I are headed to Abilene tonight for our Valhalla Missile Silo dive weekend.
I hooked up with the group from International Scuba in Carrollton.

I've read the posts about Valhalla and pretty much get the idea...straight shot, not much to see...bring a light and lawn chairs (we'll bring guitars too).
I'll be shooting some video to post sometime next week.

We know the water is cold and clear and that we have to hump our gear a little ways.
Any ideas, pointers are appreciated...but what I really need to know is who has the best BBQ in Abilene?

Have a great weekend everybody and get wet somewhere.

The diving was interesting. Cold Water @ 54 degrees. The water was pretty clear and viz was as good as your light could shine.

We tried Betty Roses BBQ in Abilene...their ad said they were one of Texas' top 50 BBQ joints. I think that was a stretch. The BBQ ribs were good but after the braggin' kind of a let down.

Some photos of the dive and dive site are at:

I grew up in Abilene but haven't lived there for many years... Joe Allen's and Harold's Pit Bar-B-Q were always good but I haven't eaten at either of them in a long time.

Hump your gear a little ways? haha.. OK, maybe not too far but it is ALL stairs and seems like forever.

Yep. Lots of stairs. The stairs weren't too bad until the last dive. Humping my gear on my back in a Full Suit, Farmer John, 5 mil Long-Sleeve top, hood and gloves was a bit much. Started feeling constricted with the heavy breathing. Chet from "The Daytripper" show is interested in putting together a dive. I might go again with them...otherwise I'm probably good for another five years or so.

it's a cool dive !! 'done 5 dives there. You'll Have a great time.
Oh yea.... by the way...
There can be rattlesnakes down in the area where you will kit up.
It's dark and you won't see them so just be aware of that. Bang around with a stick!
I got one down there ( he almost got me )
I collected him up and skinned him when I got home and I have his 9 section rattle in my Martin HD-28 for Mojo :cool2:
